Street Contxt

Street Contxt is a global knowledge exchange for institutional finance. The platform provides smart, actionable insights on research distribution and consumption. The goal is to help create a more efficient Capital Markets system. There are two Street Contxt platforms, one for the sell-side (content producers) and one for the buy-side (content consumers).

Sell-side Platform

The Challenge
The sell-side users send out an aubundance of content to the buyside hoping to start a conversation so that they can sell stock. The problem is there’s no easy way of knowing what content is resonating with what contacts so the sell-side content producer has no way of knowing who to follow up with or how to target their content more effectively.

The Solution
All this is done over email which is where Street Contxt comes in. Unlike other email tracking apps there’s more to it than just opens and clicks, Street Contxt uses machine learning to tell the user what their contacts are interested in so that they can make their research more targeted. On top of insights users need a tool that will help manage their contacts with ease and that won’t disrupt their existing workflow.

Managing Contact Lists

Sell-side Street Contxt users create lists of contacts called “distributions”. These lists are groups of contacts that the user sends content to. How they are segmented is up to the user but because the average number of distributions is 17 with some users having up to several dozen, it’s important that they can manage these lists with ease.

One of my tasks was to improve the UX for this feature. Because it is a core piece to how these guys work, better UX encourages product use but also significantly saves time for the support team whom are often dealing with distribution related issues.

Insights

Street Contxt users work in the capital markets and are therefore accustomed to consuming large amounts of data at a time. If you’ve ever seen a Bloomberg Terminal then you know what I mean. This meant it was important to display as much data on screen as possible (useful data that is). This was a challenge because I wanted the UI approachable and easy to read but needed to balance that with information density.

Insights also need to be easily actionable so that when the user sees something they can act on they don’t have to try hard to do it. This is a key part of Street Contxt’s workflow. See a contact displaying interest in your content? reach out immediately from the platform.
